Bridge Over the River Svartån

Activity Instructions:

Your challenge is to build a bridge using only newspaper and masking tape. The bridge must fulfil three criteria:
1. Be wide enough to span “the river” (marked out on the table) in one go.
2. Be tall enough for the Severn barge to pass underneath it.
3. Be strong enough to hold the bottle provided.
The bridge must be free-standing; not attached to the wall, a piece of furniture, a person or an article of clothing...FREE-STANDING."





Student Brief
(A negotiating exercise)
Scenario:

You are a member of a space crew originally scheduled to rendezvous with a mother ship on the lighted surface of the moon. However, due to mechanical difficulties, your ship was forced to land at a spot some 200 miles from the rendezvous point. During re-entry and landing, much of the equipment aboard was damaged and, since survival depends on reaching the mother ship, the most critical items available must be chosen for the 200 mile trip. Below are listed the 10 items left intact and undamaged after landing. Your task is to rank order them in terms of their importance for your crew in allowing them to reach the rendezvous point.
Place the number 1 by the most important item, the number 2 by the second most important, and so on through number 10 for the least important.

Classroom

Come and join us for an interactive workshop exploring the delivery of enterprise skills in the classroom.
~Simon Kettle Director of Stem Works and Andy Robertson Director of FEBP both have extensive “hands on” experience of delivering to all ages of students in Gloucestershire, England.
~Both Simon and Andy will get you to have a go at a range of tried and tested activities, followed by feedback and questions.
~You will take away with you briefing sheets on all of the activities to enable you to try them on your students.
